Women Woke Within was born from a powerful belief: a person’s past does not determine their future, and extraordinary transformation is possible even in life’s most challenging circumstances.

The inspiration for this platform emerged from the personal journey of its founder, who, while serving a prison sentence for a nonviolent offense, chose not to let her circumstances define her future. Instead, she committed herself to personal growth, purpose, and creating opportunities for others. During that journey, she authored Screaming From The Inside and went on to establish multiple business ventures, including a media production company, a publishing company, and several community-focused initiatives.

Originally, Women Woke Within was created to support individuals seeking justice while incarcerated. As the organization evolved, it became clear that many outstanding groups were already serving that mission. What was often missing, however, was a platform dedicated to celebrating the remarkable achievements of women after incarceration.

Today, Women Woke Within shines a light on the extraordinary women who awakened their inner strength during incarceration and emerged determined to create positive change. Through storytelling, recognition, and visibility, we celebrate their achievements, amplify their voices, and honor the impact they continue to make in the world.
